Living like Captain Cook!

The best way to understand the lives of the explorers of the past is to put yourself in their shoes!

Monday 16th January saw Class 4 live like 18th century explorers and sample some of the food that the sailors would have eaten on their long voyages. We tasted hardtack biscuits; made of strong flour, water and a little salt. They would have been easy to preserve on long journeys out at sea.

After soaking them in milk or water, we ate one! Some of us liked the taste, but others were not so keen. We described their taste using adjectives like 'bland', 'floury', 'like stone' and 'quite tasty'.
