Welcome to Foundation!

We are the best year group in the school! We have lots of fun learning through play and exploring.

You can find us in Class 1 with Miss Collett, Mrs Blount, Miss Hill and Mrs Turner. On Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, Mrs Cargill and Mrs Taylor will work with us.

On this page you will find useful information about what we do in Foundation.

Keep an eye out for our weekly newsletter which is uploaded onto Teams each Friday, which will provide you with useful information and what we are learning about.

Please get in touch with us if you have any questions, we are a friendly bunch!

Please remember!

Make sure all items of clothing, book bags and water bottles are clearly named so they don't go missing.

Please wear PE kits to school on PE days. In Foundation, this is a Thursday. Make sure each item is clearly labelled with your child's name.

Learning through play is messy! We endeavour to keep the children clean using aprons but sometimes some mess on clothes is unavoidable. We always use things that are washable.

Please keep wellies and a raincoat in school so we can be outside in all weathers!

Autumn 1 - Discover - Who am I?

This term, our topic is 'Who am I?' where the children will begin to get to know each other and learn all about themselves through discovering similarities and differences between themselves and others. To explore this topic, we will be reading the following stories: 'We Are All Different', 'The Family Book', 'Mr. Big', 'You Choose', 'Funnybones' and 'Once We Were Giants'. Through learning about themselves and those around them, this should enable the children to make connections as it helps them to self-regulate, show respect and spread kindness which are deeply rooted in our Rainbow Values.

Autumn 2 - Discover - What do different people celebrate?

This half term, our topic is 'What do different people celebrate?' where the children will be learning all about different celebrations around the world and how these are celebrated. To explore this topic, we will be reading the following stories: 'Rama and Sita', 'The Gunpowder Plot', 'Peace at Last', 'Dogger', 'Christmas Around the World' and 'The Nativity'. Through learning about what different people celebrate, and how they celebrate, it enables the children to understand and appreciate different cultures, which links to our Rainbow Values of Respect and Acceptance.

Forest Friday

Here at St Michael's, we are blessed to have amazing school grounds. Every Friday, we make use of our school grounds and spend all day outside! We passionately believe that taking our learning outdoors provides the children with rich opportunities to learn real life skills, in an environment where they can seek their adventure, make sense of the physical world around them and enhance their well-being!

We made musical instruments to play in our band for Mr Big!

We went on an adventure and explored our school grounds!
