Welcome to Foundation!

We are the best year group in the school! We have lots of fun learning through play and exploring.

You can find us in Class 1 with Miss Brown, Mrs Blount and Mrs Turner. On Tuesday afternoons, Mrs Cargill and Mrs Meanley will work with us.

On this page you will find useful information about what we do in Foundation.

Keep an eye out for our weekly newsletter which is emailed each Friday, which will tell you all about what we are learning about.

Please get in touch with us if you have any questions, we are a friendly bunch!

Please remember!

Make sure all items of clothing, book bags and water bottles are clearly named so they don't go missing.

Please wear PE kits to school on PE days. In Foundation, this is a Friday. Make sure each item is clearly labelled with your child's name.

Learning through play is messy! We endeavour to keep the children clean using aprons but sometimes some mess on clothes is unavoidable. We always use things that are washable.

Please keep wellies and a raincoat in school so we can be outside in all weathers!

Summer 1 - Explore - Where is the best place to live? What's it like in Farnsfield?

This term we are exploring and comparing Farnsfield and seaside communities. We are spending the first half of the term learning about our local area as a farming community. We are reading the stories Jasper's Beanstalk, Farmer Duck, Percy the Parkkeeper - After the Storm, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Trouble with Tadpoles. We will be learning all about growing plants, farm animals, animal habitats and life cycles. We are excited for our very first school trip to White Post Farm!

Spring 2 - Create - Are Fairytales Real?

As part of our Create topic, we explored Fairytales. We read the stories Jack and the Beanstalk, The Three Little Pigs, The Little Red Hen, Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella. We loved our Little Red Hen bakery where we could explore texture, shape, form and pattern all whilst developing our language and fine motor skills. We had lots of opportunity for roleplay using the stick puppets and mini theatre. We loved our Cinderella's Ball to finish the topic!  Have a look at some photos below of all the fun we had.

We used different materials to make a beanstalk for Jack

We had lots of fun at Christmas!

We had a birthday party for everyone who missed out due to lockdown

Santa's reindeer came to visit us!

Autumn 1 - Discover - Who am I?

This term we will be learning all about ourselves and others. We will explore our likes and dislikes, talk about our families and homes, discuss friendships and find out about our bodies and how to keep them healthy.

Welly Wednesday

We had our first Welly Wednesday and explored the school grounds including the wildlife garden, outdoor classroom, 'Fox's Den', the chickens, the Peace Garden and mini woodland area. The children thought they had been on a school trip as when we walked back onto the playground, one of them exclaimed "that's my school!"
