Homework

Each week, your child will bring home spelling patterns/words to learn, which will be tested in school. They will also be set Maths homework (including TT Rock Stars) and homework on SPaG.com. Year 6 may also be set comprehension activities. Homework will usually be set on a Thursday. It will be expected back by the following Wednesday, unless the children are otherwise told.

Linked to our topic or English work, the children may be expected to read, research, prepare a talk or presentation etc as part of an extended project-style homework relating to our topics –these will allow the children more choice and give them an opportunity to show what they can do independently.

The UKS2 Homework Club is on a Tuesday lunchtime which the children can attend if they need a little help or time to complete work.

Reading
All children will take part in Guided Reading within their classes, with follow up activities to be completed in school. They may also bring these books home to read ahead for the next session. In addition, each child is expected to have an individual reading book suitable for their own reading ability, available in school at all times. The children should record details of their own reading in their reading record book; both reading at school and reading at home (it is expected that the diary is brought into school every day). Our school expectation is that, on at least three occasions a week, you discuss a book/text with your child and make an entry in their reading diary, ensuring it is then signed. Children may borrow books from the school library as they wish. The Library is open before school between 8.30am and 8.45am and after school between 3.20pm and 3.35pm.
